I wanted to edit my Espanso snippets without hand-writing YAML, and without the editor changing anything I hadn’t touched.
The first version failed quietly
I built it with Claude Code. It read the file, changed one value and wrote the whole file back. All 115 tests passed. Then two independent AI reviewers, told to reject by default, tried to break it. One found that an unquoted 02134 in a snippet nobody had edited came back as 2134.
Splice, then check
Now the app replaces only the characters of the value you changed. Before it saves, it reads the result back: the edited snippet must say what you meant, and everything else must say what it did. If it can’t show that, it refuses to save. One test also hands the files to Espanso itself, and Espanso 2.4.1 read every snippet as written.
Honest limits
There are packages for macOS, Windows and Linux, all built from one Mac. Only the Apple Silicon one has been run. None is signed with a developer certificate, so expect a warning before each one opens.
