Building a Wi-Fi Explorer for Wireless@SGX

Why a source-backed guide beats a fake live map, and how one catalogue serves a map, an API and an MCP server.

Independent project, not affiliated with IMDA or the Wireless@SGX operators.

I wanted one answer to a simple question: where can I get Wi-Fi near me in Singapore?

Start with what the data can’t say

The catalogue lists venues, not working signal. So the explorer is a source-backed location guide, and it says so up front. No pretending to be a live monitor.

One catalogue, four doors

The public edition groups 1,800 historical records into 1,306 mapped venues. The map and a five-tool MCP server read that same catalogue, and a read-only JSON API serves the newer integrations: an importable n8n demo and an Activepieces prototype.

Honest failures

If an origin isn’t in the catalogue, the tools fail explicitly. If a ranking is incomplete, the response says ranking_complete:false. An assistant that admits gaps is more useful than one that fills them in.
